We build stages for dreams to come alive. The Hilberry Gateway is more than architecture; it’s a canvas where Detroit’s legacy of arts, expression and creativity will continue to unfold for generations to come."

Located at the vibrant corner of Cass and Forest in Detroit, the new Hilberry Gateway serves as the dynamic home for Wayne State University’s Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music. The state-of-the-art facility includes:

  • A 513-seat Proscenium Theater with a sprung floor and orchestra lift

  • A flexible 143-seat Studio Theater with a tension grid for ultimate versatility

  • A fully equipped 22,800 sq ft Production Wing for costume, scenic, lighting, and design studios

  • The reimagined Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center, housing two vibrant jazz venues: Dee Dee Bridgewater’s intimate club and the Detroit Jazz Hall, a 350-seat performance space

Beyond just a physical transformation, the Hilberry Gateway project marks a cultural revival for Detroit’s performing arts scene. Honoring its rich history while ushering in a new era for the next generation of artists and creatives.
