Ronald McDonald House

HAA designed a new home for Ronald McDonald House of Detroit. The 26,000-square-foot space is located at 4707 St. Antoine St., on the second floor of Detroit Medical Center’s (DMC) Hutzel Professional Building, and once housed clinical spaces in conjunction with DMC services. HAA served as Architect of Record and provided interior design and site design services for the project.

HAA incorporated the Ronald McDonald House's mission of caring for families into their new space by using texture, color and architectural forms to create a comforting, inviting and community-like environment."

The space features 28 guest rooms; a Detroit Red Wings-themed children’s play room and a teen recreation room; media room and lounge and living room spaces; apartment spaces for managerial staff; a large kitchen; new office and administrative spaces, and a board room for Ronald McDonald House staff. It replaces the former 16,000-square-foot Ronald McDonald house facility on the DMC campus, which had 20 guest rooms.

HAA was tasked with converting the former clinical floor to a hospitality-like guest environment. Working closely with the Ronald McDonald House, HAA incorporated their mission of caring for families into their new space by using texture, color and architectural forms to create a comforting, inviting and community-like environment. Guest rooms have simple lines and a contemporary feel, yet still provide a feeling of home. Architectural glass feature walls between the living room and play room allow parents to watch children and let light filter into the space, while creating areas for private conversation and reflection.
