This adaptive reuse project celebrates the vaulted wood ceiling and arched windows while introducing delicate lighting and millwork elements, executed with understated materials. The new refined finishes counterpoint the historic elements, producing a dynamic and delightful space. HAA worked with MGM Springfield and the Kringle Candle Company to ensure this new store embodies the Kringle brand. As is to be expected for the historic building, challenges included accommodating a new code-compliant basement access stair and kitchen area into the 2,500 SF main floor area.
Mechanical equipment was tucked into the existing basement and ductwork was threaded up through the bell tower for fresh air intake and exhaust. HAA’s scope of work included architectural and interior design services, reconstruction of the historic entry porches, a new main entry and coordination with mechanical, electrical, structural, lighting and food service consultants.
