The Mercado includes a flexible use plaza with an adjacent parking area and on-street parking."

The site is designed to highlight views of the Ambassador Bridge and facilitate vehicular circulation through and around the site while keeping the urban fabric of the community intact. The plaza can accommodate large community festivals, weekend markets, and events while retaining a comfortable outdoor scale for the everyday user. Lighting and power are integrated into the site features allowing convenient access during events while remaining out of view when not in use. A simple and decorative ground plane connects the site to the glass facade of the Mercado, visually drawing the marketplace into the plaza. Seatwalls and raised planting beds line the plaza, providing seating and enclosure; a simple bosque of trees at the perimeter provides the plaza with shade and a sense of enclosure.
