Founded in 2001 by Renee Fluker, the program was born from a mother’s vision to change lives by combining mentorship, education, and golf. What began as a personal passion has evolved into a powerhouse of opportunity, empowering over 5,000 Detroit youth to pursue higher education, build meaningful careers, and return to uplift their communities.
So, when we were approached to help bring their dream of a permanent home to life, we knew the task was special. Working closely with Renee Fluker, Harold Curry, and their phenomenal team, HAA was entrusted to design a state-of-the-art adaptive reuse of the former Detroit Public Broadcast building a 45,000 sq. ft. historic structure located in Detroit’s New Center.
Once derelict and without services, this building has been transformed into a vibrant, welcoming hub that fosters learning, connection, and community. Our goal was to reflect the spirit of the program: reviving, restoring, and building just like they do for students every day.
By consolidating the program into one central location, we created a home-like space nestled in a residential neighborhood, where young people can not only learn but feel seen, safe, and supported. The result is a dynamic, inspiring environment that breaks down barriers to postsecondary success and helps students thrive for generations to come.
Together, we’ve proven what collaboration, compassion, and creativity can achieve.
