In the last several years, HAA has been fortunate to work on several exciting projects with landscapes on structures. Whether extensive (think typical green roof) or intensive (deeper soil, larger plants), or a blend, well-designed landscapes on structure can look and feel like landscapes on grade. Successful landscapes on structure require extensive multi-disciplinary coordination. In this article, written by HAA’s Director of Landscape Architecture, we highlight the key considerations that influence the programming and design of landscapes on structure which are not at play in landscapes at grade, with illustrations of how they were handled on several HAA projects.
