Wayne County Metropolitan Airport North Terminal

Wayne County Metropolitan Airport’s North Terminal Redevelopment (NTR) is the next step in the airport’s evolution into a world-class facility. HAA served as associate architect on this $400 million project on a team led by Gensler in collaboration with Ghafari Associates. The 85-acre site was previously occupied by the Davey terminal, the Smith terminal and the Marriott Hotel.

The new facility includes 640,000 square feet of program space, featuring 26 jet gates, a 270,000-square foot terminal, a 62,323-square foot concessions area, and a 370,000-square foot concourse area.

The terminal was constructed on the site of former concourses D-G and the Davey terminal, and serves the airlines currently operating out of the Smith terminal: Air Canada, AirTran, Alaska, American, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Southwest, Spirit, United and US Airways.

The redevelopment included an aircraft apron, utilities, a hydrant fueling system, a security system, a baggage system, jet bridges, roadways and ties into existing infrastructure.
