MEDC hired HAA to develop a vision for Fort Wayne as an actively programmed cultural, recreational and educational destination that celebrates the site’s unique history."

Historic Fort Wayne is an 83-acre site in Southwest Detroit on the Detroit River that has the potential to become a highly compelling destination and serve as an important community amenity for the City of Detroit.

The concept plan achieves these goals through a series of short-term and long term investments including:

  • Stabilization and rehabilitation of historic structures as well as site infrastructure,
  • Enhancement of recreational opportunities through the improvement of existing and the creation of additional facilities and assets,
  • Transformation of the waterfront into a vibrant destination that can host active and passive recreational activities, and
  • Gradual repurposing of historic structures for diverse uses including cultural, institutional, non-profit and small-scale production activities.
